Dec 08, 2015 Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update The OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, and is. Mar 22, 2019 First, you are NOT limited to the browser that ships with Mac OS X 10.4.11. Just download a newer browser. I’d recommend TenFourFox, which has the updates and the core of modern Firefox but is compiled by an independent person to still run on OS X.

Amazing...
Why not just pop in your original Tiger install media an install the X11 Package from there? This will provide a full and working install of X11 which can then be updated through the usual means. No need to surgically inject files that do not belong to the system release you're running.

I suspect that by 'when you don't have your OS X disc handy' he meant, don't have a legal copy of OS X ;-)

That is not true. My university has a site license for Mac OS X. We do not get individual CDs for paid upgrades. (We do have all the disks that come with the computer, though.) Our Mac consultant installs them from a master disk.

I submitted this hint.. Logic behind this wasn't 'not having a legal copy of OS X,' it was simply that when I went off to school, I didn't pack away my OS X discs. At the time, I couldn't think of any reason I would absolutely need them. If the OS got corrupted or something on my G5, I would just temporarily use my MacBook for everything, until I found the time to get home and get the disc. Granted, I could've waited this out too, but I just felt like doing something hackish instead.

BTW, I also encountered the problem where the 'current' X11 package says you are up to date and the old one says you can't be upgraded. This happens if you click on the wrong installer for X11 on the Tiger disc. I appologize that I am doing this from memory and can't tell you what to click on instead, but if you use a different pacvkage file, it will install the right subpackages and not give you that 'you're already current' error.
When I got the errors, I was working off downloads from Apple, not the OS X disc. I tried a couple of different X11 downloads, getting the various strange errors. Perhaps there was another installer online that I could've tried as well.. Had I had the OS X disc, Crossover would've tracked down the file automatically, without the need to install X11 anyway. Interesting to know that the same errors spring up from packages on the OS X disc as well though.

In your instructions you say: 'In another Finder window, control-click on your Crossover application, and go to Show Package Contents. Navigate to Contents -> SharedSupport -> X11 -> bin. '
Where is the Show Package Contents? All I see in my applications folder is CrossOver.app. I click it and start the application. I then run through all the dropdown menu options but I see nothing about 'Show Package Contents'.
Explanation please.
Gees, you know what? I'm not sure I want/need the answer. I tried installing Embellish for Windows, a graphics (paint-like) program for Win95/98/2000 and CrossOver brought my entire 3Ghz 16GigRam, 1Terabyte of hard disk space to a complete freeze. Zap. Could do nothing but shut it off and back on again.
I won't try that again with CrossOver. If the CodeWeavers want people to try CrossOver they better add a mechanism that will simply announce 'this Windows program cannot be used under CrossOver' and leave it at that. By taking down my whole system it took down a long list of running applications. Not appreciated.

There is a clue in your quoted text.
'control-click' means hold down your control key and click the icon.
I wouldn't buy off codeweavers anyway, if you want wine install wine yourselves, don't pay someone else for a packaged version of an open source and free application.
And if you needs windows support, parallels is, well, unparalleled.
There's a good proportion of users for whom the full X11 is a total waste of time and space. There's a reason CrossOver specifically extracts that file instead of running the whole X11 installer. I would never tell one of my users to install the whole X11 system just to get one file. That's like 'I just need this one font', 'Well, go and install the entire Microsoft Office'.
I would suggest that Pacifist might be an easier way to go for some people, rather than poking around in the installer package and the gzipped archive. Just extract quartz-wm using Pacifist and then follow the rest of the tip with regards to putting it where it's needed.
When i try to copy quartz to the other bin folder an error message comes up saying 'The item quartz-wm could not be moved because 'bin' cannot be modified.' anybody have any suggestions?
I tried CrossOver Chromium once without quartz-wm, and then installed it per the instructions and ran XOC again, and honestly can't see a difference in the look and feel. Still looks and acts like Windows.
